Born on June 13, 1980, in Augsburg, Germany, Benny Greb developed a passion for music at a young age. He started playing drums at six years old and took his first lessons at twelve. Soon, he stood out by playing in various school bands, exploring a wide range of musical styles from punk to rock, including jazz.
At 17, he joined the music colleges of Dinkelsbühl and Hamburg, where he studied under the renowned Udo Dahmen. This training helped him develop his exceptional technique and unique rhythmic approach.
In 2005, Benny Greb released his first solo album, Grebfruit, a bold project where he primarily used voices as percussive instruments. He continued his musical exploration with Brassband in 2009, an album paying tribute to the famous brass bands of New Orleans.
The year 2014 marked a turning point with the release of Moving Parts, a project merging jazz, funk, and experimental music, showcasing his passion for innovation. At the same time, he expanded his collaborations, notably with trumpeter Nils Wülker, further enriching his sonic universe.
Beyond his career as a musician, Benny Greb is a recognized educator. In 2009, he released the DVD The Language of Drumming, where he presents his method for learning and structuring drumming. In 2015, he published The Art and Science of Groove, an educational work that has become a reference for drummers worldwide. His analytical and playful approach to rhythm makes him a key figure in drum education.
Benny Greb collaborates with some of the most prestigious brands in the drumming world. He is endorsed by Sonor for drums and Meinl for cymbals. He actively contributed to the development of the signature Sand Series cymbals, known for their unique sound and distinctive sandblasted finish. He has also designed a signature snare drum with Sonor and custom drumsticks with Vic Firth.
His reputation continues to grow through performances at international festivals, masterclasses, and impressive technical demonstrations. In 2017, he released Grebfruit 2, a sequel to his first solo album, featuring a cover of "I’m Tweaked" by Vinnie Colaiuta, once again showcasing his musical genius.
