Um Pássaro Passa - G. Pantanella & C. Hayward

A privilege of the “first times”, Gaëtan Pantanella delighted us with the release of his very first album: “Um Pássaro Passa.” A talented guitarist, he invited flutist/percussionist Chris Hayward to collaborate on this project.

These two musicians thus combined their talents to create an album with Hispanic-Latin essences. With guitar playing inspired by the best works (I sometimes thought I heard Al Di Meola , which is not displeasing to me), Chris Hayward enhanced each composition of this album with his flute and percussion.

Such a result could only have been achieved with a certain “musical experience.” Indeed, our two friends have had the opportunity, since their beginnings, to “cross swords” with brilliant figures from the French scene (and beyond). While Gaëtan had the chance to explore musical styles such as Rock Fusion or musical performances, Chris has also “done his rounds” working with artists like Henri Texier, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Daniel Goyone, and others.

But although they are of different ages and backgrounds, this album still represents the result of a gestation process that breathes quality and respect for the other. Far from the usual show-off mentality where an instrumentalist tries to dominate others, here there’s no tripping up: the duo shares an equal balance and maintains respect for one another. In the unique exercise of the duo, we understand better why many shy away from it to take fewer “risks.” It requires not only perfect mastery of one’s instrument but also, and above all, a richness in musical vocabulary, something that is often lacking in musicians who are somewhat “overindulged.”

In short, an album with varied colors (sometimes Hispanic, sometimes Brazilian, and even occasionally with a “medieval touch” when listening to the track “ Tautavel ”), all served by a formation that, while limited, offers moments of great musical quality.

To be listened to religiously and without moderation!
